Can You ‘Do More 24’ on June 8?

Join Washington, D.C.’s largest regional 24-hour online fundraiser organized by United Way of the National Capital Area, and make a difference in the life of a child experiencing homelessness.

All the funds raised in the 24-hour period of June 8 will go to expand our Playtime program at the Quality Inn overflow shelter on New York Avenue, which launched in January. On our first night, about 30 children came to play. Clearly, the need to give children living in temporary housing a safe and fun space to play is great!

We currently operate one on-site evening program a week, and have partnered with the Smithsonian’s The National Museum of American History to create a monthly opportunity for our children living at the Quality Inn to play and learn at Wegmans Wonderplace. With the funds raised on June 8, we plan to add another evening of programming to serve even more children at the motel.

More than 1,300 children live in shelter overflow motels in D.C., and this is the first time some of them have access to programming tailored to meet their special needs. Help us serve this population of children by supporting our Do More 24 campaign on Thursday, June 8. You can pre-schedule donations starting today.

Give the gift of play today!
