For any child, going back to school can be stressful, but for children experiencing homelessness, it can be especially challenging getting all the supplies required by D.C. Public Schools.

You can make this a smooth transition for hundreds of children and teens living in temporary housing by providing new backpacks filled with needed supplies.

Playtime is seeking groups or individuals who are willing to provide a minimum of 10 stuffed backpacks for ages: 3-6, 7-12, and 13-18. We have more than 500 children and teens living at the shelters and transitional housing sites that we support who need stuffed backpacks.

(Note: This year, we are not accepting loose items or school uniforms.)

This is a great opportunity to join forces with friends, coworkers, or family to collect and assemble brand-new backpacks filled with all the supplies students need. Your participation will give a child living in temporary housing the confidence that they have all the right supplies for a successful school year. Here’s what to put in each backpack:

Interested? Contact Rebecca at rebecca.staple@playtimeproject.org, who will match you with a site. Our goal is to have donors drop off items at the assigned site in early August.

Give the gift of equal access to school supplies!
