Playtime Needs Volunteers for Two Specific Areas

Posted by on Jan 23, 2019 in Featured Stories, Volunteer |

Volunteers are always in need at Playtime, but there are two specific areas where we could use your help. One is hosting birthday parties for the children, and is great for group volunteers. The other is providing transportation for deliveries to our sites. Interested? Read on for details:

Host a Birthday Party with Playtime!

We’re looking for groups of volunteers to host birthday parties each quarter, starting in March, at all of our partner shelter sites. As a party host, you provide food, birthday treats, and goodie bags for the children, as well as plan and lead three to four activities during the party. You work closely with Playtime staff for planning, and have the support of our Site Managers and weekly volunteer Play Rangers during the party. Parties take place one evening during regular Playtime programming (Mondays through Thursdays, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.). As the party host, you arrive early to
set-up and stay to assist with clean-up.

If interested, please fill out this form and Nicolien Buholzer, Volunteer Program Manager, will be in touch to discuss the opportunity in more detail. You can also contact her at if you have any questions.

Become a Volunteer in Motion!

If you have a car, we’d love to have your help. Our Volunteers in Motion help us transport donations and other supplies from our office in Columbia Heights to our partner sites across the District.

Here’s how it works: When we have supplies to go to our sites (usually a few times a month), we send an email to our Volunteers in Motion. If you’re available, you reply and we coordinate a pick-up/drop-off time that works with your schedule. And just like that, you’ve helped to make play, and other resources, possible for hundreds of children throughout D.C.

All Volunteers in Motion must pass a background check, sign our waiver, and supply us with their driver’s license information. If this would work for you, please sign up here, and Nicolien will be in touch.

Our dedicated volunteers provide the backbone of Playtime, allowing us to provide play programming to hundreds of children living in temporary shelters across the city. Thank you for all your support!
